Can I only use the number 9 on my cell phone?

No, but we actively market the service so emergency personnel and members of the public know to only press 9 to get your information and send out the call for help, so 9 is the preferred number.

How does the billing work?

UCT Students & Staff

The service for UCT students and staff is Sponsored and therefore the monthly service is FREE and is linked to the student/staff number. Should the panic button be activated in the event of an emergency, the main member will be billed R5 for such activation.

Non Students

For all other users, the main member's cell phone account will be billed just R10,00 per month. Should the panic button be activated by any of the 4 dependants or the subscriber in the event of an emergency, the main member will be billed R5 for such activation. The R10,00 is debited from your cell phone account monthly and you will be sent an SMS every month with confirmation of billing.
